Cílem soutěže Nové KCP bylo navrhnout novou výstavní halu Kongresového centra Praha, která by sloužila kongresům a konferencím, koncertům a jiným společenským akcím.

Budoucí hala má položit základ kvalitnímu veřejnému prostranství již v nejbližších několika letech a navržené urbanistické řešení by mělo v poslední etapě realizace zahrnovat i transformaci pražské magistrály z dopravní tepny v městský bulvár.

Soutěž probíhala ve dvou kolech, anonymně a byla otevřená účastníkům z celého světa. Své návrhy odevzdalo sedmdesát šest týmů z dvaceti tří zemí, což představuje práci nejméně čtyř set architektů, urbanistů, inženýrů a dalších odborníků. Jedenáctičlenná porota vybrala šest návrhů k dopracování v druhém kole soutěže a poté udělila první a druhou cenu. Až do svého konečného rozhodnutí neznali porotci jména autorů žádného z návrhů.

The aim of the competition New KCP was to design a new exhibition hall for the Prague Congress Centre that would be used for conventions and congresses, concerts and other social events.

The future exhibition hall should lay a basis for a good quality public space in the next few years and the proposed urban solution should have included in its last stage also the transformation of the Magistrála road from a traffic artery into a city boulevard.

The competition had two rounds, was anonymous and open to the participants from any country in the world. Seventy-six teams from twenty-three countries submitted their designs, which represent the work of at least four hundred architects, urbanists, engineers and other professionals. Eleven-member jury selected six of the designs to be worked out further in the second round of the competition, and then awarded the first and second prize. Until their final decision, the jurors did not know the names of the authors of any of the designs.
